JR Kyushu’s all express trains can now be boarded with a QR code – No ticket required, just go directly to the “Green Ticket Gate”

JR Kyushu will expand the area covered by the “Online Reservation QR Ticketless” ticketless service, which allows you to board trains you have reserved online using a QR code, to the entire Kyushu region from July 8 (Tue), 2025.

“Hyuga” and “A-Train” are also available

There is no need to collect your ticket at the counter or ticket machine. You can board the train just by holding the QR code issued when you make your online reservation over the ticket gate. The service has been available since September 2024 for major trains in the northern Kyushu area departing from and arriving at Hakata Station and the Nishi Kyushu Shinkansen, but with this expansion, it will be available on all limited express trains under the jurisdiction of JR Kyushu.

For reservations made after Tuesday, July 8, QR tickets can now be used on limited express trains such as the “Nichirin,” “Hyuga,” and “Kirishima” that run south of Saiki Station on the Nippo Main Line, and the “Aso” and “Kyushu Cross-Island Express” that run on the Hohi Main Line. D&S trains (tourist trains) such as “Futatsuboshi 4047” and “A-Train” can also be boarded using QR code, but trains such as “Aru Ressha” and “Kanpachi Ichiroku” that can only be purchased as travel products are not eligible.

Improved app for easier use

The “JR Kyushu app” is scheduled to be updated on July 31 (Thu), and QR tickets for reservations for multiple people will be displayed within the app. In addition, the color of the ticket screen will automatically change as you pass through the ticket gate, eliminating the need to tap the update button to check your entry and exit status.

Green has been designated as the service color to coincide with the expansion of QR Ticketless, and compatible ticket gates will be clearly decorated as “green ticket gates.” JR Kyushu is running a gift campaign in which users who board using QR Ticketless or EX services will be entered into a lottery to receive the company’s points, “JR Kyupo,” in an effort to attract more new users.
