Four JR companies collaborate for the first time for online reservations – Allowing users to access other services with a single login including “Ekinet” and “Smart EX”

JR East, JR Central, JR West, and JR Kyushu are integrating their individually operated online reservation services to allow for smooth transitions between services without the need to log in again.

Reserve Shinkansen from Tohoku to Tokaido with a single login

These services include JR East’s “Ekinet,” JR West’s “e5489,” JR Kyushu’s “JR Kyushu Internet Train Reservation Service,” and the “EX Services” (“Express Reservation” and “Smart EX”) jointly operated by JR Central, West and Kyushu. This marks the first attempt to integrate JR’s online reservation services, and the four companies have agreed to work together to improve convenience across service boundaries.

For example, if you’re traveling with Shinkansen from Sendai Station to Nagoya Station via Tokyo Station, you currently need to log in to “Eki-net” to complete your Tohoku Shinkansen reservation, and then separately log in to “Smart EX” to make your Tokaido Shinkansen reservation. Future initiatives will introduce a “single sign-on” feature that allows seamless transitions between services with a single login, eliminating the need for multiple authentication steps. In addition, new features will be added, allowing users to complete reservation confirmations within a single service, such as displaying reservation information made through “Eki-net” on the “Smart EX” screen.

Linkage begins between “EX” and “e5489”

Linkage between “EX Service” and “e5489” is scheduled to begin in fiscal year 2026. Other linkages will be gradually implemented between reservation services as they become ready from fiscal year 2027 onward. Starting October 4 (Sat), 2025, a service that allows mutual login authentication between “EX Service” and “e5489” will be launched first. To use these service linkages, users must first register as a member of each service and agree to link their membership accounts.

Please note that the new service “LINE to EX,” which utilizes the messaging app “LINE” and will launch on October 4 (Sat), is not included in the linkage service. This agreement between the four companies will greatly simplify the procedures for login authentication and screen transitions, but it does not mention integrating the independent train reservation services and products, or expanding the number of ticket collection locations, so we can hope for even greater convenience.
