Tokyu Corporation will be renovating the interior and exterior of train cars that are approximately 20 years old and are operating on the Meguro Line, Toyoko Line, and Den-en-toshi Line.
The new exterior design is based on white, in keeping with the “2020 Series” that has been introduced on the Denentoshi Line, Oimachi Line, and other lines since 2018, and features a rounded horizontal accent on the front, making it look like the train is smiling. The curved line that connects from the bottom of the front to the top of the side features a gradation that is reminiscent of the color of each line.
The design was selected from 86 applications submitted by Tokyu employees and was selected after being supervised by Tanseisha (Minato City, Tokyo), the company behind the 2020 series train designs. A total of 468 cars and 54 train sets are included, with 104 cars (13 train sets of 8 cars) on the Meguro Line 3000 Series, 184 cars (23 train sets of 8 cars) on the 8-car Toyoko Line 5050 Series, and 180 cars (18 train sets of 10 cars) on the Den-en-toshi Line 5000 Series.
The interior design will also be revised, with the walls, floors and seats being unified in a calming color scheme that evokes the scenery along the line. Free space will also be increased to make it easier for everyone to use. For cars that already use the interior design based on the 2020 series, only the exterior will be renewed.
The renovated trains will be introduced gradually, with commercial operation scheduled to begin on the Meguro Line around autumn 2025, on the Toyoko Line around winter 2025, and on the Den-en-toshi Line around spring 2026.
