The JR Group will start selling the “Seishun 18 Ticket” for the summer of 2025 on July 4 (Fri), 2025, which allows unlimited use of local trains on JR lines nationwide.
Two types: for 3 or 5 consecutive days
Until the summer of 2024, the “Seishun 18 Ticket” could be used for any 5 days or by up to 5 people during the period of use, but from the winter of the same year, it will be available in two types: for 3 or 5 consecutive days, and the rules have been changed so that the start date of use must be decided in advance and purchased. It can no longer be used by multiple people, but it also has the advantage of being compatible with automatic ticket gates, so you don’t have to line up at manned ticket gates, which tend to be crowded.
The price is 10,000 yen for 3 days and 12,050 yen for 5 days, and during the valid period, you can ride ordinary and rapid trains (excluding Shinkansen and limited express trains), BRT (Bus Rapid Transit System), and JR West Miyajima Ferry as much as you like. The period of use is from July 19 (Sat) to September 9 (Tue), and purchases can be made on the day of the start of use. The “Seishun 18 Ticket Hokkaido Shinkansen Option Ticket” (4,650 yen) will also be on sale, which allows you to travel between Honshu and Hokkaido using some sections of the Hokkaido Shinkansen and the Dounan Isaribi Railway Line.
The famous “18 Ticket Poster” is now a stamp
As a new way to enjoy the “Seishun 18 Ticket” this season, a collaboration project with the JR Group’s official web app “TRAIN TRIP” called “Seishun 18 Ticket Stamp” will be launched. If you visit six designated stations across the country, you can earn a digital stamp with a motif of the poster visuals that have adorned past “Seishun 18 Ticket” as a record of your trip.
Meanwhile, JR Hokkaido and JR East will be selling the “Hokkaido & East Japan Pass”, which allows unlimited travel for seven consecutive days on both companies’ lines as well as on the Aoimori Railway Line, Iwate Galaxy Railway Line, and Hokuetsu Express Line’s local and rapid trains. If you purchase a special express ticket separately, you can use standing seats (vacant seats) on the Hokkaido Shinkansen only between Shin-Aomori Station and Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station. The period of use is from July 1st (Tue) to September 30th (Tue), and in light of the JR Hokkaido fare revision implemented on April 1st (Tue), the price will be revised to 11,530 yen for adults and 5,760 yen for children from this time (a fare increase of 200 yen for adults and 100 yen for children will occur from the winter of 2024).
