JR Central has decided to end the operation of the special “Wonderful Dreams Shinkansen” Tokaido Shinkansen train, which has been in operation on the Tokaido Shinkansen line for a limited time since February 2025, on September 15 (Mon/national holiday).
Themed around Tokyo DisneySea’s new area
The special train, themed around “Fantasy Springs,” which opened at Tokyo DisneySea in June 2024, was created in cooperation with Oriental Land Co., Ltd. and features a special livery for the first time in the Tokaido Shinkansen’s 60-year history. Inspired by a “magical spring inhabited by spirits,” Fantasy Springs is the park’s eighth themed port, and features attractions inspired by the worlds of the Disney films “Frozen,” “Tangled,” and “Peter Pan.”
The side windows of each of the 16 N700A trains are painted in rainbow-like colors, instantly setting them apart from other Shinkansen trains. Upon closer inspection, the middle cars feature designs inspired by three different themes: “Frozen Kingdom,” “Rapunzel’s Forest,” and “Peter Pan’s Neverland.” The two front cars feature designs combining all three areas. The interior headcovers and table stickers are also decorated with special Fantasy Springs themed designs, and the onboard melody is an arrangement of “Shining Future” from “Tangled.”
The final run will be the evening “Hikari” train
The train have operated between Tokyo Station and Shin-Osaka Station, primarily “Hikari” and “Kodama” trains, but will cease operation on September 15 (Mon/national holiday). According to the schedule posted on the official website, the first train to run on the day will be Hikari 636, departing Shin-Osaka Station at 6:42 AM (arriving Tokyo Station at 9:42 AM). After one round trip between Tokyo Station and Shin-Osaka Station as Kodama 715 and 736, the final run will be Hikari 659, departing Tokyo Station at 7:03 PM (arriving Shin-Osaka Station at 10:03 PM). This schedule is subject to change depending on operational conditions, so please check official websites beforehand.
Major travel agencies such as JR Central Tours are continuing to sell exclusive travel products to Tokyo Disney Resort on designated trains that will be operating with special configurations. Participants will also receive a limited-time commemorative gift of an original acrylic stand or bag charm.
